Notes from the Author
Hey folks this is my first attempt at Fanfiction so I hope that you all appreciate the work that went into this even if you don't appreciate the final product. I had a hard time figuring out what to write about but my friends Dancing Imp and James Thomas helped me through it. I also used Mad Imp's proofreader Greg Beauchamp, I also have a buddy of mine named Marshman to look over my stuff. I know that several of you may not know anything about Spidergirl or the Marvel 2 Universe, that's ok I don't know a whole lot either. However I felt that this would be an interesting crossover so I decided to take up the challenge and I believe that I have created a successful short story. I say short story because most pieces of work I start usually run to be about 1500 pages and I run out of steam before they are done. I decided to place the time frame of Spidergirl to have ended with the number 52 comic and then begin my timeline, and Ranma to have begun after Nihao My Concubine (also I've only seen the Anime so don't get upset if I've forgotten something from the Manga). So let's get off this rant and on with the story...
Oh yeah let's not forget the usual disclaimer: This story is not meant to offend any of the
originators of either Ranma 1/2 or Spidergirl or any of the people who have
worked on these two great pieces of literature since their conception. Also if the owners do feel the need for
legal action I don't have anything except bills and you are MORE than welcome
to those.
Crouched
down between the dumpsters the figure begins to contort in the movements of
someone trying to get undressed without being seen. The head of a cute young woman with dark auburn hair peeks out
between the containers to see if anyone is coming. Content with what she sees she strolls out casually stuffing what
remains of the familiar red, blue and black costume with the spider web pattern
into her knapsack. Smiling she joins
with the rest of the foot traffic on the sidewalks of New York. Her name is
Mayday "May" Parker and she's the daughter of the original
Spider-man. She remembers having
inherited the powers of her father just a little after her sixteenth birthday
and since then has followed in his footsteps calling herself Spider-girl.
Her face clouds over as she thinks of the trouble that her new powers gave her just after she started the superhero biz. Lying to friends and family, endangering those she loves to save those she doesn't even know, never having a normal social life... not to mention romantic life. She breathes deeply as she remembers the face of the twelve-year-old boy she just saved from a bunch of gangers because he didn't have "toll" money for crossing their turf. This is the reason she keeps with the hero biz.
Her
mind skips over the encounters these last two and a half years as she turns
down the street to her apartment. This
last year has been a blur, but she seems to have finally found the niche where
she can operate within. DarkDevil even
told her that she had been doing excellently, not in so many words but he
alluded to it. Supervillians seem to be
getting scarcer and easier to defeat.
She no longer has to worry about boy troubles since Franklin Richards of
the Fantastic Five asked her out. With
Angel Face and Funny Face back in jail because of her the other Superheroes in
the city have even started to respect her again. Her home life has gotten easier since she moved into an apartment
with her friends too. Since her brother
Ben was born her parents have had their hands full so they don't worry too much
about her.
‘They
have to be glad to see me out of the house, even if they do miss me. Besides,
I'm much happier on my own,' the young webslinger thought to herself. 'Even though Davida and Courtney share the
rent I have so much more free space to myself.'
Sighing
to herself May checked her knapsack real quick to see if she remembered her
wallet. She smiles as she pulls it out into her hand and just to be safe uses
the small amount of concentration it takes to make her hand cling to it. This
is New York after all. Walking down the
street just five blocks from her apartment building she enters into her
favorite department store to pick up a few essentials: shoes, maybe a new pair
of slacks, some blouses, a few dresses, and maybe some jewelry. Sure she had plenty of these things and she
was rapidly running out of closet space but she had worn all of those and she
had a date with Franklin coming up.
The
young heroine looked around inside the store anxious to try out her new credit
card. Stopping in front of one of the display dummies she looked up at the
ensemble it wore and lost the concentration necessary to keep her wallet stuck
to her hand from shock. The mannequin
in front of her was displaying a pair of slacks and a casual shirt that was
black and green with a giant 8-ball on the chest. 'Th-thats almost the same design as Crazy Eight used to wear,'
the shocked woman thought to herself as her mind replayed the events of the day
so long ago.
As she stood on the roof of the building
across from Canis Kennels trying to talk some sense into Gerald Drew, a kid
whose mom had tried to save his life by putting him through an experimental
procedure to cure a disease he had, gunshots rang out below. The procedure had given Gerald almost
exactly the same powers as May and her father.
Gerald had set himself up as the New Spider-man in a copy of her
father's old costume to honor his career as a crimefighter. Despite her
warnings Gerald flung himself below as a full battle between Canis, Mr. Nobody,
Crazy Eight and Funny Face erupted in the Kennels. She felt a great need to
help this new Spider-man out but had promised her father to stay out of
danger. May stood conflicted as she
watched the villains and Gerald duke it out.
Her promise to her dad melted away as Canis took a swing at Gerald and
he dodged back right into the path of Mr. Nobody's automatic pistol. May knew that since Gerald didn’t have her
family's Spider-Sense he would never know about the bullets coming from his
right side since he was focused on Canis.
She leapt off the roof and hurdled towards Spider-man just as Mr. Nobody
pulled the trigger sending a spray of bullets towards the oblivious young hero. May plowed into the young man and carried
him with her past the danger of the bullets.
Unfortunately Crazy Eight was
standing on just the other side of Spider-man preparing to launch one of his
explosive 8-balls at him and caught the entire barrage of bullets through the
chest. The fight was almost instantly
over as Mr. Nobody realized he had mistakenly killed Crazy Eight and teleported
away. Spider-man was angry that May had
joined the fight until he saw the bloody form of Crazy eight on the ground
being held tenderly by his brother Funny Face.
May's
legs tremble underneath her as she stares at the mannequin as she sees the
scene replay in her mind's eye. She
remembers Funny Face pointing at her full of rage and blaming her for his
brother’s death. She remembers feeling
guilty because he was right. Trembling
she makes her way to the ladies room quickly with tears streaming out of her
eyes. She plunges herself into one of
the empty stalls and locks it as she cries out her guilt. As she sits there she begins to go over the
events that came after the death of Crazy Eight.
Funny Face vowing revenge released his
mother Angel Face from Ravencroft, a Maximum Security Prison for the Criminally
Insane, and they went on a spree of destruction looking for Mr. Nobody and
Spider-girl to avenge Crazy Eight. In
retaliation for that Spidergirl called on a few of the other young superheroes
to fight the insane duo. The Ladyhawks,
the new Green Goblin (actually her Uncle Phil Ulrich), The Buzz, Raptor (a
villain turned good guy) and a reluctant DarkDevil would assist Spider-girl in
hunting down the two Faces and putting them away. When they finally caught up with the Faces, Angel Face almost
decimated their ranks before Spider-girl drove her outside and made a deal with
her. Angel agreed to take Funny Face
and leave the city never to return and May let her leave. The others in the group she formed were
angry with Spidergirl and they agreed to never work with her again. She found out later that they formed up
again without her. She almost let her
doubts about the Faces consume her when she found out about them starting their
spree of crime elsewhere. Her father
sensing something was wrong with his daughter decided to come out of retirement
and help her out. The Faces also
decided to renege on their agreement and returned to New York to hunt down
Spidergirl for a little revenge. They
found her father instead and captured him when his bionic leg
malfunctioned. She tracked them down
and found them as they were discussing killing her father. Unable to stop
herself she launched into the two Faces and began to mop the floor with
them. Angel knowing there would be no
deal this time fled and ran into the Green Goblin who settled the old score
from their last meeting. After rescuing her father she found that one of her
friends was hurt because she wasn't there and gave up the suit thinking her
father, who at the time she didn't know had also given it up again, was on the
beat. After some soul searching and a
pep talk from DarkDevil, who had always told May to give up the hero act, she
decided to take the suit on again.
Finally
ceasing her crying and feeling much better, May pulls out a compact from her
bag. As the tears dry on her face she checks the damage to her makeup. Her makeup is smeared across her face and
she sighs as the last of the tears dry on her face. She sets about fixing her makeup as she thinks about the
significant changes in her daily life since then. The daily grind of superheroism kept up for a few months
afterwards with no real significant changes.
There were times over the next few months where May had thought about
giving up the suit for good, until she saved the Buzz from a chemically crazed
Raptor. She then KO'd Raptor and
tracked down the underground ring of politicos who decided to use her to their
own ends and put the leader, the DA who prosecuted Raptor, in jail. Since then the other heroes began to respect
her again.
Closing
the compact she opens the stall door and looks into the open floor space, which
is clear. She washes her hands and
leaves the bathroom making sure to give a wide berth to the shirt that began
her sudden memory. She makes her way
back to the shoes and begins her perusing as she begins to reflect on her
brother's birth. Her mom and dad were
so happy when he arrived and her mother was fine. She had complications all through the pregnancy and spent the
better part of it in bed or a wheelchair.
Her parents had named the baby Benjamin Peter Parker in honor of her
Great Uncle Ben who had died just after her father got his powers. Her brother had been the missing piece in
her parents' lives. Another baby was the world to them, not that they neglected
May afterwards but they didn't worry about her as much. Her father had also asked Big Brain to scan
the baby's DNA to see if he would one day develop the Spider powers. Brain had told Peter that it was unlikely
that he would though there was an unusual gene he couldn't identify in the
baby's DNA but he would look into it further.
She had tried to get Franklin to tell her what it was but all he knew
was that Big Brain thought it might be a latent Mutant gene and didn't want to
tell her father about something that wouldn't affect him for years to
come. She did wonder about the baby but
had decided that no matter what happened she would still love him and be there
for him when he needed his big sister.
After
she graduated Davida had come to her telling her about this killer apartment
that she had found in Manhattan for a song.
They had decided to team up and get the four-bedroom apartment. Since Mr. Jameson had decided to keep her on
staff at the Bugle she had plenty of money.
She had even helped JJ talk his granddad into opening the paper up to
the web. Currently she was in charge of
which ads to place online and which to pass up, a pretty sweet job that she
didn't have to report into the Bugle's offices unless she felt like it, as long
as it got done. Although once she and
Davida had moved in they found the fine print in their lease said that they had
to manage the building which had several maintenance problems. They began facing the problem of finding a
new place to live because neither of them had any skills with fixing leaky
faucets or bungled wiring. Courtney was
the answer to their prayers; though May had known her since they were kids she
never knew that she was a regular Mrs. Fix-it. She moved into the apartment and
soon they had taken over the duties of managers in the place. Courtney even began teaching the other girls
how to do simple repairs.
Soon
after having moved into the apartment Brad and JJ began chasing after May much
harder than ever. May remembers having
spent many a night out webslinging to clear her head over the two. Brad, who was also the Buzz, had a bad
problem with jealousy and being too possessive of her when they had gone out
before and she was wary of going through that again. JJ was a spoiled rich kid who seemed to think that life was a
game and wanted to win, but he was sweet and cute. But they paled in comparison to Franklin who was the son of Mr.
Fantastic and the Invisible Woman and had inherited his mother’s telekinetic
powers and a form of telepathy. Where
Brad and JJ were cute Franklin was absolutely dreamy. May sighed as she thought of their first date. He had helped her find Raptor after having
busted up the chemical ring that had changed her back into a villain. After having helped her back to her sanity,
and seeing Normie happy again her emotions had overwhelmed May. Without
thinking she had kissed Franklin. After it was over he had asked her out to
diner and she agreed. Sadly though Franklin still didn't know she was Mayday
Parker only that she was Spider-girl.
May
shakes her head and picks up the shoes that she had tried on. They would be perfect for the next time she
and Franklin met. She had asked him to
meet her on the roof of her apartment and she planned on dressing in normal
clothes so she could tell him all about her.
If things go right maybe she'll have a boyfriend who understands about
the superhero biz and won't mind her rushing off in the middle of a date to
help someone being mugged.
As she looks through the dresses she thinks to herself, 'Yup... it looks like things are finally looking up for Spider-girl.'
